THE JANUARY 2012 COURSE IS NOW FILLED TO CAPACITY – PLEASE CONTACT LIFT IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN FUTURE DNS COURSES.
Saturday and Sunday January 21-22nd, 2012. Seattle WA. The hours of the course will be 8:30am-6pm on Saturday, and 8:30am-3:00 on Sunday.
Ever wonder how developmental reflex patterns are influencing your clients’ movement patterns?
Ever wonder how to use those patterns to help your clients to perform better?
Wonder no more!
LIFT and Stretch Physical Therapy are pleased to host Part 1 of the Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) Sport Course!
DNS is a method using developmental reflex patterns to create dynamic locomotor stablization.
The method is a synthesis of the neurophysiological principles governing locomotor system function. It has been developed by Pavel Kolar through his private practice and ongoing collaboration with members of the Prague School of Rehabilitation, including Vladimir Janda, Vaclav Vojta, Karel Lewit, and others.
The DNS Sport Course, Part 1, is the introductory course to the DNS approach with regard to sport-based movement. The course will teach participants to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of developmental kinesiology with an emphasis on development during the first year of life.
- Describe the relationship between development during the first year of life and pathology of the locomotor system in adulthood.
- The basis of human movement: support, stepping forward, the biomechanics of motor function, the verticalization process in postural development.
- Evaluate and correct poor respiratory patterns.
- Demonstrate an understanding of functional joint centration, punctum fixum, punctum mobile and the integrated stabilizing system of the spine.
- Assess the integrated stabilizing system of the spine both visually and utilizing dynamic functional tests.
- Integrate corrective exercises based on the DNS functional tests and developmental positions.
- Basic DNS position for exercises – supine, prone, low kneeling, oblique sit, on four, global patterns movements.
- Demonstrate how DNS corrective exercises can be integrated with other exercise strategies.
This course is also a prerequisite for Part 2 of the Sport course, which will be offered sometime in the summer of 2012!
NOTE: This course is part 1 of the 2-part Sport Course Series. It DOES NOT cover manual elicitation and guidance of the reflex neuromotor responses (shown at 2:54 of this video – http://web.me.com/psrehab/REHABILITATION/DNS-VIDEO.html). For licensed healthcare practitioners interested in learning this method, please look at the A-D courses listed here – http://www.rehabps.com/REHABILITATION/Structure_course_A-D.html, or contact Alena Kobesova at the Prague School.
