That's a great question! I suppose Cressey is right. It's always better to do something, rather than nothing. But if the teacher isn't there...I don't know. I think it's important to follow your heart/desire, especially when it comes to movement. If you are very motivated to do something, you'll do it more frequently. If you switch to a different type of movement because you can't find a coach, you might be less likely to participate in it.

With the internet as it is, I think it should be relatively easy to find at least some kind of instruction to help you out...for just about anything!

Good post this one.

In relation to this point:

Preferably, find someone with both the physique and credentials, and a cheerful, sunny demeanor. That’ll make it easier on everyone.

And I note that Eric Cressey said not to long ago that doing something (exercise) is better than doing nothing.

Do you think there is a situation where if a person doesn't have access to a specialist trainer (strength trainer etc) they should forget about training in that specific way? In other words, is more harm done and time and energy wasted doing something without having all the proper first hand knowledge available ( i.e a trainer on hand to tell you when you are screwing it up) and should people just stick to what they do know?
